Digital Honours for the Horniman

On Friday evening, it was announced that the Horniman have won two Best of the Web Awards at the international Museums and the Web conference.

Best of the Web is an annual contest to recognise the best museum work online. Sites are nominated by museum professionals from around the world, with the winners chosen by a committee of leading museum and digital professionals.

The Horniman's awards were in the categories of Social Media and Long-Lived:

  • Our tumblr account In the Horniman (which highlights objects being reviewed by the Collections People Stories team) won the Social Media category.
  • Our overall website, social media, online collections and other digital work for the past several years won the Long Lived category. This rewards a museum that has shown a long-term commitment to an excellent online presence.

Winning two categories in one year is a great acheivement for the Horniman, one of only two UK museums which won awards (Imperial War Museums also won for Operation War Diary).
