About this event

Join us for an afternoon of concerts and carnival performances in the Gardens to celebrate the end of our summer festival: the programme will include carnival parades, extravagant brass bands, curious pop-up performances and concerts bringing together musicians and influences from across the world.

Music and carnival performances in the Gardens

Mandinga Arts & Kinetika Bloco All Stars
1.30-2pm & 3-3.30pm
Mandinga Arts brings together live music, carnival and street costume and dance, drawing on diverse influences from Europe, Latin America and Africa. They will present a series of carnival parades and pop up performances inspired by cabinets of curiosities, with spectacular costumes, giant puppets and live music by the Kinetika Bloco All Stars.

Les Grooms
4-4.30pm & 5-5.30pm
Welcome to the eccentric world of the theatrical brass band les Grooms! These anarchic French musicians promise you a joyous mélange of music and comedy: they can improvise a tune for a single passer-by or suddenly become a living red-carpet; are capable of inflicting an individual musical torture session, or of attacking a group of pedestrians; and might well finish off with a tender serenade to a lucky bystander.

Concerts on the Bandstand

BronzeHead is a 10-piece group making new music inspired by the raw & heavy funk rhythms of 1970's West Africa. Representing 5 different nationalities and with past musical experience in rock, reggae, hip hop, jazz, ska, and electronic, BronzeHead mixes traditional African rhythms together with funk & soul to form thrilling new compositions that create dance floor chaos.

Trans-Siberian March Band
A heady mix of culture, cabaret and carnival, the Trans-Siberian March Band (TSMB) are a riot of colour and sound that never fails to get a crowd dancing. With their outrageous costumes and their borderless bag of musical styles including Balkan, Klezmer, Ska, Turkish, Russian, Albanian and Latin tunes, TSMB look as loud as they sound and always put on a spectacular show.

Alejandro & the Magic Tombolinos
Alejandro Toledo and the Magic Tombolinos is a sextet made up of travelling musicians from different parts of the globe (Argentina, France, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, UK), who bring together their backgrounds and experiences in a celebration of music with no regional boundaries. Combining Rock, Gypsy, African, Middle-Eastern, Latin and Hip-Hop rhythms, this high energy band delivers the most exciting performances London music scene has to offer.

Other activities will include pop up performances, storytelling, family trails, face painting, food, dance and much more.
